The exercise in the “sit” this week was letting go – – of fear, hatred, anger, worry, envy, sorrow, etc. . . all adverse conditions. It can be hard to let go -especially if you’ve invited some (or all) of these adverse conditions into your spirit and you feed and water them and keep them as pets, watching them grow and becoming more and more attached to them as the years go on.
The more we learn about the functioning of the mind and the power of thought on the physiology of the body, the easier it is to understand how these adverse conditions move in and the menagerie grows and grows.
We become dependent upon the fuzzy little critters to make us feel normal – the old peptide deal. And then, we become the Crazy Cat Lady, except all our pets are internal – lovingly nurtured grudges and crap that we can’t possibly imagine not having because they have become part of us. “How can I forgive that insult?” “It’s not fair that she has more than me.” , “I hate that horrible person.”, “Poor me, I’m so mistreated.” , “Why am I always the one that. . . (fill in the blank).”
We have a perfect opportunity to let it go this week. Let go by voluntary intention and persistence! Name your “adverse conditions” – then in your ‘sit’ write them on a balloon and Let. It. Go. They have not served you well. Watch each one float up and out of sight. Let it go.
Great metaphore on the menagerie! So much easier to grasp as a concept than the Monkey Mind! Love it! God bless you!
Thanks so much!
Yes I love the metaphore as well! very funny and it makes it even more “creepy” in a sense of what we “normally” go through everyday.we need to learn to LET GO ! oh my God , I wonder how I lived before this course!lol Solene
Isn’t it great what just a few weeks of different thinking will do for us! Thanks for the comment, Solene!
What an enjoyable read. The metaphors were spot on and the balloon idea was off the hook. I am going to give it a try. Kudos to you for a nicely written piece . Looking forward to the next edition.
