(you can listen while you read if you want!)
Over the last few weeks, I’ve noticed a shift within. Perhaps it has something to do with the weather getting better, I don’t know. I have noticed in places and at times where I’m used to playing the radio – in the car, while working, etc., I haven’t. I’ve opened the window while working to hear the birds waking up – of course with my space heater next to me, because it still is cold in the mornings.
Then awhile later when I would usually turn on the radio for a favorite program, I’ve stopped in mid reach, and said, “No.” Instead, I’ve allowed the squirrels running around in the yard, rustling through the leaves we never raked up last fall, to be the background noise of my day. When my work time was done, I’d go downstairs to do the next thing, and I just didn’t turn on TV or iTunes, or radio then either. Hmmmmm
I guess this is me working up to my unplugged time. I haven’t jumped right on the assignments; Subby works with the ideas for awhile, then I seem to become “ready” .
I’ve found a place to go for my silent, unplugged time. There is actually a retreat center about 20 miles from home with private cabins and 4.5 miles of trails through the woods. I’m looking forward to booking 48 hours there soon.
Looks amazing Nancy! Soo looking forward to hear about your silent times!
I’m the same – at home I rarely listen to anything. I dont have tv for probably 2 years now and dont miss it at all. In my car I listen to my own recordings, but often to nothing at all. I enjoy my silence time…
Silence at home or in the car with two boys is difficult so I do treasure the times I am by myself when I don’t have to turn on the radio or a movie.
I also enjoy listening to the birds as I wake up now that it’s becoming Spring here.
Nancy, What a delightful treat to listen to birdsong while reading your thoughts. I also love the sounds of nature and have found myself leaving the radio off both at home and in the car — and I’ve always been such a talk-news addict, I’m surprised that I don’t even miss it! Maybe we are changing on this journey to our new selves.
Great experience of awakening for you this week. Thanks for share.
Awesome Nancy, That retreat center sounds like a great place to go into the silence…Peace & Blessings.
Awesome you found a place. I am still trying to find a time and place, but I know it will happen. I am going to do a shorter version- 8 hours on Thursday, it is all I can do at this time as I had things scheduled before the assignment that I cannot have someone else do for me . It is awesome that you are finding silence in smaller ways through out your day.
The retreat center does sound fantastic and the birdsong is Perfect!
