I wonder how easy it would be to quit blogging.
To be honest- really easy. Last week I wrote about how I was present when the computer system at the DMV crashed.
Well, enter the spinning wheel of death on my home PC. When I work, I have my two screens and tiny that belong to my employer sitting on the left of my desk. My personal PC sits to my right. While I work, I have Pandora or iTunes playing softly on my home PC.
As usual, I clocked in, then tried to fire up Pandora. The screen was stuck on some “Windows update – do not shut down your computer”. Ok. So, about 20 minutes later, I noticed it was shutting down. Cool.
Not so much. The spinning wheel of death returned with the same message. I went to my phone and entered the error message. It gave me many fixes for this error. There were one or two that I understood, so I tried what they suggested.
Nothing.
Spinning wheel of death returned. Grrrr.

I looked at another “fix” and this is what I understood:
“Xoudoisl diiehlsl sllitsleo ig tkekes wollslw sheools su thseeeus the vegggsitso soooyyew xylwls delete all content bbosokel s slooghu shoree wwpltijd. Reinstall.”
I decided that since all I understood was “delete all content and reinstall” was waaaaayyyyy out of my comfort zone. And my IT guru is out of town.

Being the non-judgmental observer caused me to see that I will be happy to live without my PC until the guru returns. I have a photoshop project I can still do without the internet. I can make my blog featured image, put it on a thumb drive and transfer it to my laptop to write my blog.
Now for the webinar. What to do? I can’t get to it on my pc. So, I then put all my email accounts onto my iPad so that I use the email link – – that was a challenge. But I did it – so then I clicked on the webinar link and got a message to download the “go to webinar” app – so I tried that – and got the message that my iPad was out of date and wouldn’t support the app. Ok.
The only choice I had left was my phone. Well – for some reason, since the crash of my PC, the mail on my phone didn’t work for all my mailboxes any more.
Magically–the place for me to update my email accounts appeared on my screen. I must have mistakenly hit something, because I’d looked all week to be able to update those mailboxes! I updated the mail boxes and was finally able to load a week’s worth of email.
DAMN!!!! I missed an important webinar yesterday!!! And I really didn’t do anything yesterday. I could have attended. But because my email boxes were messed up due to losing my operating system on my PC, I didn’t get the reminders.
Now I have to decide what to do. I can give up or press on. I will press on. I have the webinar going on my phone. I will watch the replay of what I accidentally missed yesterday. And I have blogged EVERY week this year – a HUGE accomplishment for anyone, much less someone who has been techno-challenged several weeks this year over a couple of different computer issues. It’s not pretty, but I got it done!
There is always a way, when you want to do it!

Nancy your blog put a smile on my face. Way to be persistent.
Thanks so much! Gotta laugh!
Wow! An impressive display of calmness, finding a way, and persistence! I went through something like that pre-MKE, lost my hard drive and my cool (and losing it didn’t help the situation one bit!)! I hope something like that doesn’t happen to my computer again, but if it does, you’ve provided an excellent example of how to get through it with grace! 😉
Thank you, Laura! There is always a way!
